Take Action Against Pay Day Lending
/If you hate Pay Day Lending in Alabama and want to help the poor that it takes advantage of by supporting S91, here is what you can do. After a little research, I found out that Rep. Ken Johnson (R) from Moulton, AL is the one who holds the bill in his hands. He is the chair of the House Financial Services Committee. Even though S91 passed the Senate with significant support and my sources tell me that the votes exist in the House to pass it, Rep. Johnson is sitting on it and is trying to kill it. S91 would drastically reduce the interest that could be charged on these parasitic pay day loans. There are only 5 days left on the legislature. The pay day lending industry has hired around a dozen lobbyists to keep S91 from passing. They are spending a great deal of money and have given significantly to legislators who support them. If you want to help the poor in Alabama today, please contact Rep. Johnson by phone and/or email today and tell him to pass S91. Rep. Thad McClammy is the Montgomery rep on this committee and he has not been much help either. This is the first time that I have ever used Facebook for something like this in Alabama and it might be the last. But, the opportunity to shut these places down is right before us. Why would we pass it by? Share this with your friends, too. #tellabetterstory
“If your brother becomes poor and cannot maintain himself with you, you shall support him as though he were a stranger and a sojourner, and he shall live with you. Take no interest from him or profit, but fear your God, that your brother may live beside you. You shall not lend him your money at interest, nor give him your food for profit. I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt to give you the land of Canaan, and to be your God.”
Leviticus 25:35-38 ESV
